San Diego-based Mor Furniture For Less will close its distribution warehouses in Fresno and Bakersfield and open a warehouse in Visalia in the next 60 days, says a spokesman for Diversified Development Group of Fresno.

Diversified leases warehouse space in Fresno to the big retailer and also owns a large warehouse on Plaza Drive in Visalia where Mor Furniture will consolidate both operations.

Mor Furniture will lease 80,000 square feet in Visalia to serve the entire South Valley market.

The distribution center is expected to employ 30 to 40 workers. A company spokesperson confirmed the consolidation.

Mor Furniture has 20 locations in seven Western states.

It does not have a store in Visalia but sources say that could change soon.

That's when the lender will sell the 226,000-square-feet retail shopping center to the highest bidder with a minimum bid of $110,734,296.25 according to a legal notice. According to Fred Meno of the Woodmont Company — the receiver on the foreclosed property — the sale isn't a reflection of business activity at the Valley's only outlet mall. "They are doing extremely well."

Outlet mall manager Patty Rocha says she could not comment on the sale but says mall occupancy is near 100 percent. "We have only two spaces available, with a letter of intent on one of them." New tenants include Maurices, Levi's and Justice.

Tulare Economic Development director Bob Nance is looking for someone to build and operate a meat processing plant in Tulare. The move comes after Western Pacific Meatpacking, which had an agreement with the city, failed to come up with financing to move the project forward after years of trying.

The city has had inquiries from several major players in the industry, including Harris Ranch and Cargill, that could build and operate the 60-acre, $100 million facility to be built near the waste treatment plant. The operation could employ 300 workers. Western Pacific owes the city $525,000 secured by Goshen industrial land. If the company cannot repay the loan, the city could end up with it.

The Tulare Irrigation District is working on a pilot project with a Colorado solar company to lease a 15-acre recharge basin next to its new headquarters to install solar panels.
