: Houston Astros select Locust Grove's Adrian Houser

Houser went in the second round, No. 69 overall, to the Houston Astros.

“I’m pretty excited about it,” Houser said. “I’m not sure what will happen now. My adviser has a number in mind, but I’m not even sure exactly what it is.”

Houser was the fourth high school pitcher from the state taken, following the selections of Owasso’s Dylan Bundy , Broken Arrow’s Archie Bradley and Deer Creek’s Michael Fulmer on the draft’s first day.

“It’s pretty awesome (to be a part of this class),” Houser said. “Especially since me, Archie and Dylan used to play on the same team.”

Bundy, Bradley and Houser played together for a few years before reaching high school.

Houser was 9-1 with an 0.76 ERA in 62 innings pitched for the Class 4A state champions. He struck out 125.

At the plate, Houser hit .487 with eight home runs and 41 RBIs.

METS SELECTION A SURPRISE TO FULMER Fulmer had no idea Monday afternoon that the New York Mets were going to call his name in the draft, but he’s glad they did.

Fulmer was selected with the 44th overall selection Monday night and said the Mets’ area scout contacted his agent toward the latter portion of the first round.

“I didn’t say a word to anybody (about the call),” Fulmer said. “And then when they said my name, the whole place just exploded.”

A watch party was organized for Fulmer on Monday night that included the entire Deer Creek baseball team and their families.

Fulmer initially thought the Rays might select him because of the great relationship he’s had with the Rays’ area scout. The team didn’t matter, said Fulmer. Being picked was enough.

“Right now I’m just happy to be a Met,” Fulmer said.

Fulmer has signed with Arkansas.

SANTA FE TEAMMATES PICKED NEARLY BACK-TO-BACK Edmond Santa Fe’s Conor Costello didn’t have a lot of time to celebrate being drafted by the Cincinnati Reds. Within minutes, he was congratulating Wolves teammate Clayton Blackburn , too.

Costello was selected by the Reds in the 16th round of the draft at No. 505. Two picks later, Blackburn, a pitcher, was selected by the San Francisco Giants.

“This feels so awesome,” Costello said. “I’ve been playing with him the last five years so to get drafted right by him is really cool.”

Costello has signed with Arkansas, while Blackburn has signed with Oklahoma.

Miss Rodeo USA: Locust Grove, Oklahoma

Friday Afternoon my queen mom and I headed NorthWest to Locust Grove, Oklahoma for the parade Saturday Afternoon with little thought of it being Friday the 13th on our mind.  The weather was perfect and we were getting to make a trip together.  We headed out but by Clarksville, Arkansas I had decided that I had to get some food!  We pulled the Payton Chevrolet Avalanche into Wendy's.  Mom went in and got some food while I got the laptop hooked up for her to play on since she seemed pretty bored just riding along. A big thanks goes to Arkansas State University for payment toward my laptop and CT INC-Clara and Lacey Glover out of Carbondale, Kansas for my Verizon Internet Card. I noticed a change in temperature when we got out there, but didn't really think that much of it.  We made it to Locust Grove to their Roundup for Jesus Rodeo around 8 pm and got a big surprise when we got out of the truck.  It was freezing!  Luckily, I don't go anywhere without my IFR41 jacket.  However, Mom forgot to pack a jacket and I had to give mine up for her but got a hot chocolate out of the deal :)  During the rodeo, they took a short break to deliver a piece of God's word which I though was great-my two favorite things-God and Rodeo.  When the rodeo was over I signed some autographs and we headed to the Barnes Ranch where we were staying the night.  It was a beautiful place and I would like to sincerely thank the Barnes Family for opening up their home to us.  This morning Mom and I got ready and headed into town in search of her a type of jacket, sweater, or something.  But in the middle of May-No such luck.  We had lunch at Ranch House Pizza and then went to line up for the parade.  I started out standing up on the back of the Avalanche with my James Smith Saddlery Chaps on, but thanks to Donna and Amanda I ended up on horseback.  He was a perfect parade horse to!  I was only booked for the parade so after it was over, Mom and I headed out toward home.  In fact, she is driving as I type this blog.  I hope everyone is having a blessed weekend!
