Community Briefs: NAMI-Four Seasons meeting
The NAMI-Four Seasons meeting will be held at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Pardee Educational Center in Blue Ridge Mall for the general meeting and education program.
This month's presentation is from Sandy Goble, past president of Four Seasons, advocate and now author of her first published book of poems. There will be copies of her new book for sale and a book signing.
NAMI Four Seasons is a local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illnesses.
The education meetings are open to all those who are suffering from a mental illness as well as their family members/partners and friends.
Dog obedience classes
Henderson County Parks and Recreation Department announced new starting dates for dog obedience classes.
Classes start at 9 a.m. Saturdays on July 9 and 7 p.m. Tuesdays on July 12. Classes are held in Jackson Park.
Registration and seminar for both classes will be June 25 at 9 a.m. at the Administration office.
Calsses are for seven weeks with unlimited refresher courses at no charge upon graduation. CPR and Heimlich training are part of the course.

Opportunity House classes
The following classes will be offered at the Opportunity House. For information on any of the below classes, call the Opportunity House at 828-692-0575.
Zumba Gold, day classes: Ongoing from 10 to 11 a.m. taught by Ann Swift.
Zumba Gold, evening classes: Interest has been shown for Zumba Gold to be conducted. If you are interested in joining on Tuesday evenings, call Opportunity House.
Jewelry and Lapidary classes: 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday and Fridays. Started for summer season and continuing till November. Learn the art of cutting, polishing and designing own stones to turn into jewelry.
Chair yoga: With Arlene Riley, certified instructor. Call to express interest in class for six week sessions at $60.
Weaving classes: Learn to weave on a floor loom, plan a project, weave a sampler sign up for studio time for a one time option of BOGO (buy one get one) month for the price of $40.
Pottery, daytime classes: 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays with instructor Bob Frank for six sessions. Middle and high school students encouraged to come and join the adults to start these beginner classes. Cost: $120, adults; $60, students.
Pottery, evening classes: 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, starting June 21 with Patrick Biggs. Eight sessions class. Cost: $140 or $120 for members. Includes supplies.
