The DNR forestry office in Brainerd recorded 2.23 inches of rain compared to a 10-year-average of 2.49 inches. Year-to-date precipitation was 3.81 inches compared to an average of 5.24 inches.

Snowfall totals for the season were listed at 34.5 inches compared to an average of 56.7 inches.

April's high temperature was 79 degrees on April 15. The month's low temperature was 20 degrees on April 8.

Brainerd 'Y' member receives national award

Brainerd Family YMCA member Helen Root received the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award through the national SilverSneakers Fitness Program. The annual award recognizes the SilverSneakers member at participating fitness centers who has the most reported participation in the program for a designated time period.

Root, of Brainerd, received a certificate signed by President Bush and an embroidered badge for her commitment to her health at the Minnesota SilverSneakers dinner and dance in Bloomington on Thursday. The Brainerd Family YMCA had 34 SilverSneakers participants attend the dinner.

The SilverSneakers Fitness Program is a results-oriented program that enables older adults, often burdened with chronic conditions, to take charge of their health and maintain an active, independent lifestyle.

Coleman staff traveling to seven Minnesota cities to talk gas pricing

BAXTER - A representative of Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., will be in Baxter and six other cities in a two-day tour starting Tuesday to learn how high gasoline prices are affecting residents and businesses.

Carl Kuhl, regional representative for Coleman, is scheduled to stop in Baxter, Grand Rapids, Bemidji, Little Falls, Moorhead, Fergus Falls and Melrose.

The Baxter session is 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Country Inn and Suites at 15058 Dellwood Drive. The Little Falls session 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Little Falls ethanol plant at 17936 Heron Road. He will discuss the senator's Energy Efficiency Act of 2006, a bill that is designed to reduce foreign oil dependence by establishing specific national goals for replacing oil imports through expansion of renewable fuel infrastructure, increased use of vehicle technologies such as hybrids and conservation measures.

Grad Blast meeting set for Wednesday

The next meeting of the Grad Blast 2006 planning committee will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Brainerd High School room A-160.
