Broward judge to decide fate of pit bull puppies
The future of three puppies and an adult dog removed from a home with a suspected pit bull fighting ring in the yard is the focus of an issue going before a Broward County judge next week.
For the past six weeks, Petunia, Dexter and Meatballs have been in the care of a foster mom.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office is trying to make sure the animals are not returned to their previous owner, Sendrick Fable, who faces seven misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and felony drug charges, according to the Broward State Attorney’s Office.
When deputies arrived at Fables’ home on April 15, they found the three pit bull pups infested with fleas and laying in their own waste. Their mother was thin and unresponsive, according to the arrest report.
Fable told officers he hadn’t gone outside to feed her in about 14 days because he’d been hurt in an auto accident.
He admitted the pit bulls were his, but said the four adult male pit bulls belonged to someone else.
Deputies went to the home in the 2500 block of Northwest Ninth Place near Fort Lauderdale with a search warrant for narcotics, according to the BSO report. One dog, possibly used as the bait dog, was described as cowering in the corner of a suspected fight ring with deep wounds on its head, oozing and with maggots. They found dried blood on the floor and fence, the report said.
The four male dogs were euthanized because of their injuries, according to Broward Care and Animal Regulation officials.
Fable, 27, told deputies he wasn’t involved with dog fighting, but his friends were, according to the report.
He didn’t want to surrender the dogs for proper care, deputies wrote.
They were removed anyway, and in the care of their foster mother have been going to puppy kindergarten for training. She has new homes lined up for the pups, if the court agrees to remove them permanently from Fable.
